South Platte River Trail is a fantastic option if you’re looking for great Colorado destinations to find beautiful wildlife in the winter. One of the biggest draws of this location is the eagles. Over a hundred bald eagles roost in the cottonwood trees along the river during the winter. You can also spot golden eagles, red-tailed hawks, merlins, kestrels, and plenty of other beautiful bird species along the trail throughout the year.
Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge is one of the largest urban wildlife refuges in the country. Over 300 native Colorado species call this refuge home, including bald eagles, coyotes, mule deer, and even bison. With a convenient location just outside Denver, visiting the refuge is a surefire way to experience some of the best wildlife sightings in the state. You can drive through the park alone or take a trolley tour to see all the best sights.
